Many clients have asked how often they should publish blog posts and update the content on their websites. Should it be done once a day? Perhaps once a week? Twice a month? The answer is that there is no definitive answer! It’s always up to the client, but generally speaking, more often is better than less often. Clients with large budgets that can invest in publishing plenty of engaging and interesting content regularly, will obviously see better results than client who publishes a single article every few months – but this does not mean you have to publish a new blog post every single day. Quantity is important, but quality is more important.
Forget about how often, just concentrate on telling your story with good content. Don’t fall into the trap of publishing mediocre or copied content just to have new posts! Each blog post needs to be informative and to tell a story. In addition, the blog post content must standalone in its own right, remember that blogs are for your human visitors too, not just fodder for search engines! Quality is paramount when it comes to content, one high quality post every week is much better than ten poor quality posts every day.
In addition, it’s important to note that search engines are unpredictable, you never know when the next update is coming, and you never know what the impact of that update will be! To have the best chance of keeping your website ranking in the search results, your publishing schedule should also be unpredictable. Some of the most popular blogs in the world may not get updated for days or even weeks on end, then suddenly there will be lots of posts, then nothing updated again for a while. This is completely natural, whereas a blog updating with exactly 10 posts every single day smacks of automation and spam!
So there is no ideal figure of how often you should publish content on your blog, but luckily we can provide as many or as few blog posts as you require and even publish them for you on a random drip feed basis, to keep both search engines and human visitors happy – just let me know what you need!
